Rate limiting
A cap on how often the same source may hit a sensitive page, so password guessing, scraping and form flooding stop before they become your problem.

Someone trying passwords one after another gets a handful of attempts rather than millions. A script copying your prices, or a bot filling your enquiry form with spam, is cut off instead of costing you a server.
Real customers never meet it: the limits sit far above anything a person does.
