In plain words

Sequelize is the library the system uses to talk to PostgreSQL. Instead of scattering database commands through the code, every table is described in one place and every change to the structure is written as a migration.

WHAT IT SERVES

What it does for you

Your database never drifts. Adding a field or a table is a file we can review, apply and undo, on your server exactly as on ours, so an update is not a gamble.

It also blocks a whole family of attacks: values are always sent to the database as data, never pasted into a command, which is what stops SQL injection.
