How to Appear in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode in Arabic
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode now answer in Arabic. What Google officially requires, the AEO, GEO and llms.txt myths its 2026 guide addresses, how to write content worth citing, and how to measure it in Search Console.

Search in Egypt no longer ends with ten blue links. Since May 2025, Google has shown AI Overviews in Arabic, and since October 2025, AI Mode has been rolling out in Modern Standard Arabic. Many Egyptian business owners now ask the same question: how do we get our company cited in those AI answers, and do we need a new kind of "AI SEO" to do it?
The short answer, from Google itself: there are no additional requirements and no special optimisation needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. A page must be indexed and eligible to appear in Google Search with a snippet. What gets cited is content Google can crawl and understand, that is genuinely helpful, and that offers something beyond common knowledge. You do not need an llms.txt file, special AI markup or content chopped into tiny pieces.
This guide separates Google's official guidance from the myths, and explains how to write Arabic and English pages that are useful enough to be cited, and how to measure it in Search Console.
Key takeaways
- AI Overviews launched in MENA and in Arabic on 20 May 2025. AI Mode in Modern Standard Arabic started rolling out on 8 October 2025.
- Google says there are no extra requirements to appear in AI features. Normal SEO foundations apply: crawlable, indexable, snippet-eligible pages.
- Google's 2026 guide calls "AEO" and "GEO" other names for SEO, and says llms.txt files and special AI markup neither help nor harm Google visibility.
- Content that wins is "non-commodity": specific, expert and based on real experience, not a rewrite of what already ranks.
- Since 31 August 2026, all sites can see impressions from generative AI features in a dedicated Search Console report.
What changed in Arabic search
Google brought AI Overviews to MENA and in Arabic globally on 20 May 2025, on mobile and desktop. On 8 October 2025, it began rolling out AI Mode in Arabic, in Modern Standard Arabic.
Two practical consequences for Egyptian companies:
- For many informational questions ("ما هو نظام ERP", "كم تكلفة تصميم موقع"), searchers may read a summary before they see any website. Being one of the cited sources becomes the new visibility.
- AI Mode answers in Arabic are in Modern Standard Arabic. Clear, well-structured MSA content with Egyptian examples is the safest format for being understood and cited.
AI is already part of how Egyptians look for information. Similarweb ranked chatgpt.com as the 7th most visited website in Egypt in August 2026, and a Microsoft AI Economy Institute report estimated that 14.8% of Egypt's working-age population used generative AI tools in Q1 2026.
What Google officially says
Google's page on AI features and your website is short and clear:
- "There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary."
- To be eligible, a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet.
- Both features may use a "query fan-out" technique: issuing multiple related searches across subtopics to build a response. A page that covers a topic thoroughly can be relevant to several of those sub-searches.
- You can limit how your content is shown with the same controls as normal Search:
nosnippet,data-nosnippet,max-snippetornoindex.
The same page lists familiar best practices: allow crawling in robots.txt, make content easy to find through internal links, provide a good page experience, keep important content in text form, and make sure structured data matches the visible text.
Myths Google's 2026 guide addresses
In May 2026, Google published a dedicated guide to optimising for generative AI features. It is worth reading before paying for any "AI SEO" package.
| Claim you may hear | What Google's guide says |
|---|---|
| "You need AEO or GEO, not SEO" | AEO and GEO are other names for SEO work aimed at AI search; SEO best practices remain relevant because AI features are rooted in core ranking systems |
| "Add an llms.txt file" | You don't need new machine-readable files, AI text files or special markup; they neither harm nor help visibility in Google Search |
| "Break content into small chunks for AI" | There is no requirement to break content into tiny pieces; Google's systems understand multiple topics on a page |
| "Rewrite everything for AI" | You don't need to write in a special way for generative AI search, or chase every long-tail variation |
| "Structured data is required" | Structured data isn't required for generative AI search, though it remains useful for rich results |
| "Get mentioned everywhere" | Seeking inauthentic mentions across the web isn't as helpful as it may seem |
One related change: Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in May 2026. FAQ sections are still useful for readers, but adding FAQ markup no longer produces a special result.
Writing Arabic and English content that is worth citing
Offer something beyond common knowledge
Google's guide asks for "non-commodity content that's helpful, reliable, and people-first", with a unique point of view and expert or experienced takes. For an Egyptian company, that usually means:
- Local specifics: Egyptian regulations, ETA e-invoice steps, payment methods such as InstaPay and Fawry, and how things actually work in Cairo, Alexandria or the Delta.
- Real experience: what you learned from projects, common mistakes, real timelines and trade-offs.
- Sourced facts with dates, from official bodies, rather than figures copied from other blogs.
Answer the question early, then go deeper
State the direct answer in the opening paragraph, then explain the details, exceptions and steps under clear headings. This helps readers and makes it easy for any system to find the relevant passage, without artificially splitting the page.
Write proper Arabic, not machine translation
- Use clear MSA with the terms Egyptians actually search for, and keep technical terms such as ERP or CRM in Latin script with an Arabic explanation.
- Give the Arabic page its own title, description and examples. A literal translation of the English page rarely matches Arabic search intent.
- Keep one language per page, and link the language versions with hreflang. See our guide to bilingual websites and hreflang.
Show who is behind the content
Name the author or team, show relevant experience, cite sources, and date updates. Make your company details, address and contact page easy to find.
Technical checklist for AI features eligibility
- Important pages are allowed in robots.txt and return a 200 status.
- Pages are indexed: check the URL Inspection tool in Search Console.
- No accidental
nosnippetor very lowmax-snippeton pages you want cited. - Main content is in the HTML as text, not only in images, PDFs or content loaded late by scripts. Server-side rendering helps here.
- Internal links connect related pages, so Google can discover your supporting content.
- Structured data, where used, matches what users can see on the page.
- Pages load well on mobile and pass Core Web Vitals.
How to measure visibility in AI features
Traffic from AI features is counted in the Search Console Performance report under the Web search type. In June 2026, Google also introduced dedicated Search Generative AI performance reports, and on 31 August 2026 extended them to all websites worldwide. They show impressions within generative AI features, with breakdowns by page, country, device and date. Use them to see which of your pages appear in AI answers, then study why those pages are chosen. Our Search Console guide for business owners walks through the reports.

Frequently asked questions
How can my website appear in Google AI Overviews?
Make sure your pages are indexed and eligible to show with a snippet, then publish genuinely helpful, specific content. Google states there are no additional requirements or special optimisations for AI Overviews or AI Mode.
Is Google AI Mode available in Arabic?
Yes. Google began rolling out AI Mode in Modern Standard Arabic on 8 October 2025. AI Overviews have been available in Arabic since 20 May 2025.
Do I need an llms.txt file for Google?
No. Google's 2026 guide says you don't need AI text files or special markup to appear in its generative AI features, and that such files neither help nor harm your visibility in Google Search.
Will AI Overviews reduce my website traffic?
It depends on the query. Simple factual questions may be answered on the results page, while complex or commercial questions still lead people to websites. Track your impressions and clicks in Search Console rather than guessing.
Can I stop Google from using my content in AI answers?
Google says you can use the same controls as for normal snippets, such as nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet or noindex. Be aware that these also limit how your pages appear in regular results.
